online storage/backup

I noticed it mentioned in your site that you offer online storage/backup accounts. Could you tell me a little more about them? How does the transfer work, sftp? cost?
I would love to resell this service. Is it possible to compete with the pricing of xdrive, ibackup, etc.?

For internal purpose it's 0.50 USD per GB per month and it is *not* counted towards your bw usage (i.e. it goes over your 2nd ethernet).

You can use sftp, scp or rsync.

We have not yet decided on pricing for external purposes.

I did some googling to find out what kind of client software is available for backing up to a remote server. After rbackup and NovaNet-WEB , I came across Ahsay. Runs on Linux and looks very promising.

I have emailed them for pricing. Let me know if Idologic would be interested in managing a server for this and a ballpark on pricing.

Ahsay CAL's can be leased for less than $1.50US/mo. At that price, I think it would be possible to offer competitive rates depending on what Idologic would charge to house it. Any thoughts?

We're getting a new 16 drive storage server shortly, so expect pricing for off-network backups in the next few days.

External backups. Possibly for use with the Ahsay software mentioned in this thread.

Re. the external backups. It's something we want to do, but not with the current backup box. I've thought about it for some time and it's quite the security risk to open up the box to outside FTP and/or SCP. The current backup box only allows connections from within our network.

That said, I've already setup a test enviroment for external backups, the only downside is that it will require 1 IP per user as it uses a jailed freeBSD enviroment. This is the only way to get it 100% secure though, process and diskspace are completely seperated.

I can't give an ETA though as we're still in the process of upgrading to dual xeons.
